SHES Library Procedures and Policies

Our library is open 8:05 am-3:00 pm Monday-Friday.
Before and after school hours are available upon request. 


In our library you are free to:

  • Visit often
  • Read comfortably
  • Access all materials
  • Ask questions
  • Change your mind about a book
  • Choose books that interest you
  • React to what you read
  • Make recommendations
  • Share your opinions
  • Find joy in reading!

Checkout Procedures

  • Students in grades K-3 may check out up to three items at a time
  • PK4 students may check out one item at a time and keep it in the classroom.
  • Lending periods are for 1 week.
  • Students may renew items that are not on hold as many times as they would like. If an item is on hold, then only one renewal period may be used. Renewing an item extends the lending period for an additional week.
  • Materials that are not available may be put on hold or inter-library loan from another school in the Worcester County Public School system.

Items considered for purchase should be:
  • Current (published within the last three years)
  • Award-Winning or Notable
  • Highly recommended by a trusted professional selection source
  • Supportive of the curriculum
  • Reflective of the student population
  • Give students access to viewpoints and cultures different from their own
  • Support the love of reading
  • Published by an accurate and trusted author/publisher/source
  • Appropriate for the social and emotional level of our student population
